The 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour brings together Morocco’s mountains, ancient earthen villages, palm valleys and Sahara dunes in one private round trip. Follow the Tizi n’Tichka road over the High Atlas, visit Aït Ben Haddou, continue through Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses, and spend your first night in the Dades area.

On Day 2, walk beneath the cliffs of Todra Gorge before continuing to Merzouga. Ride a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes for sunset, or request a 4×4 transfer to camp. Enjoy dinner and a night in a private luxury desert tent with its own bathroom.

On Day 3, return to Marrakech via Rissani, Alnif, the Draa Valley and Ouarzazate. The route passes through Rissani without a sightseeing or market stop: the journey back to Marrakech is long, so the day is reserved for the drive, meals, comfort breaks and brief scenic stops where practical. Expect arrival in Marrakech in the evening. If you want a Rissani market visit or more time in the desert, ask about a four-day or five-day tour.

3-Day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas → Aït Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Dades Valley

Meet your driver at your accessible Marrakech hotel, riad or agreed meeting point in the morning, usually around 7:30–8:00. Head into the High Atlas Mountains on the winding Tizi n’Tichka road. Stop at viewpoints as time and road conditions allow.

Visit the fortified village of Aït Ben Haddou, known for its earthen buildings and hillside setting. Walk through the ksar and enjoy time for photographs. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant, then continue through Ouarzazate. A brief photo stop near Taourirt Kasbah may be possible depending on timing; entry to monuments is separate unless stated in your quotation.

Continue past the palm groves of Skoura and Kelaat M’Gouna in the Valley of Roses. Follow the road toward Boumalne Dades and check in to your selected accommodation. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in the Dades area.

Day 2: Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Erfoud → Merzouga → Sunset Camel Trek → Desert Camp

After breakfast, travel through the Dades region toward Tinghir. Continue to Todra Gorge, where you can take a short walk beneath the canyon walls and stop for photographs. Then travel through Tinjdad and the desert landscape toward Erfoud, with a lunch stop along the way.

The dunes of Erg Chebbi rise ahead as you approach Merzouga. Meet the camel team at the edge of the dunes and ride out for sunset. If you prefer not to ride, arrange a 4×4 transfer to the camp when booking. Exact trek timing depends on the season and sunset.

At camp, check into your private luxury tent with an ensuite shower and toilet. Enjoy dinner and, when conditions allow, music around the campfire. Spend the night among the dunes.

Day 3: Merzouga → Rissani (pass through) → Alnif → Draa Valley → Ouarzazate → Marrakech

Rise early if you would like to see the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, return from camp by the transport arranged for your tour and begin the long journey to Marrakech.

Travel through Rissani without stopping for a visit, then continue toward Alnif and the southern landscapes around N’Kob and Agdz. The route follows the Draa Valley area, where palm groves and earthen villages provide a change of scenery. There will be stops for lunch and comfort, plus brief viewpoints when timing and road conditions permit. These are short breaks rather than extended sightseeing visits.

Continue via Ouarzazate and cross the High Atlas Mountains back to Marrakech. Your driver will drop you at your accessible hotel, riad or agreed meeting point, normally in the evening. Because this is the longest travel day, avoid scheduling a flight or time-sensitive activity for the evening of your return.
