Itinerary

The start of our 9 days tour from Marrakech to the Merzouga Desert will be contingent on your arrival and will commence at the airport.

After having breakfast at your riad, you'll embark on a journey from Marrakesh to Ouarzazate via Tizi n Tichka pass, surrounded by the stunning Atlas hills and mountains. Along the way, there will be stops for taking pictures and an off-road detour to the Telouet Kasbah known as Glaoui. You'll also have a chance to wander through the picturesque villages and see the crops on the Atlas hills. The next stop is the Ait ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
After lunch, you'll continue on to Ouarzazate, nicknamed the "Hollywood of Africa", for its stunning geography and history of attracting movie producers. You have the option to visit the film studios, showcasing props from famous movies such as The Mummy, Gladiator, and The Last Temptation of Christ. Lastly, you'll visit the Taourirt Kasbah, belonging to the former governor of Ouarzazate, the Glaoui family, before checking into your riad or hotel.

After breakfast, we'll head to Toudra Gorges via the Skoura palm grove. On the way, we'll pass through the Roses Valley and visit the Dades Valley before continuing to Tinghir, a recently revitalized town at the base of the Anti Atlas Mountains. After lunch, we'll drive to Merzouga, stopping at various towns and villages including Tinejdad, Touroug, and Erfoud. On the approach to Erfoud, you'll see the historic irrigation system known as "Khettarat". We'll then continue to the captivating sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, where we'll switch from our vehicle to camels for a sunset tour of the dunes. After reaching the Berber camp, you'll enjoy dinner and a drum performance before spending the night in a Sahara camp.

After breakfast, we'll depart and make a stop in Rissani to visit the local market, or souk. From there, we'll travel through the expansive Ziz Valley, dotted with millions of palm trees, all the way to Errachidia. Along the way, we'll pass through the Ziz Gorges and the stunning views of the Middle Atlas Mountains. We'll stop in Midelt for lunch, then continue on to Fes, passing through the largest cedar forest in Morocco, Azrou, where we'll have the opportunity to take pictures with the Barbary monkeys. Our next stop will be in Ifrane, known as the "small Switzerland of Morocco" due to its European-style architecture, before arriving in Fes in the afternoon and checking into the riad.

In the morning, we will embark on a tour of the city's most prominent monuments and historical sites, including the Bouaananiya Medersa and the Karaouiyine University, which is renowned as the oldest Arabic university in the world. These locations offer a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage and architectural history of the city, providing a unique opportunity for us to delve into its past and understand its significance. The Medersa is a stunning example of traditional Moroccan architecture and design, while the Karaouiyine University represents a cornerstone of educational excellence and intellectual pursuits in the region

Early in the morning after breakfast, we will set out towards Meknes, where we will be treated to a breathtaking view of the Medina. Our tour will start by exploring the walls and monumental gates of the city, including the Berdaine Bab and Bab Khemis, which date back to the seventeenth century. We will continue our exploration of the city by visiting the stables (Rua), attics (HERI), and stud.
We will make a necessary stop at the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, which was once the only mosque that non-Muslims could visit in Morocco. We will exit the mosque through the famous Bab Mansour El and onto the vast Hedim square. Afterwards, we will visit the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, where we will spend some time discovering the 2000-year-old ruins and gaining an understanding of life during the Roman Empire. Our final destination for the day will be the blue city of Chefchaouen, where we will stay overnight.

After having breakfast, you will have some free time to explore the charming blue city (Chafchaouen) on your own until 12:30 PM. Afterwards, we will drive through Tetouan, with its houses perched on the hills, and the lush green mountains of Rif. We will spend the night in Tangier.

After a hearty breakfast, we will embark on a full-day tour of Tanger. The tour will include both a bus ride and a walking tour to visit some of the city's most iconic landmarks. You'll see the stunning Cap Spartel, the impressive Palace of the Sultan, the Necropolis, and the Caves of Hercules.
You'll also have free time to explore the vibrant streets of Asilah and buy some souvenirs. Later, we'll drive to Rabat where we'll visit the Kasbah of the Udayas, built by a notorious tribe of predators in the 12th century. We'll then see the Hassan 2 tower, which has four facades, each with a different color scheme, followed by the remnants of the old mosque and the Mohamed 5 mausoleum. We'll end the day in Casablanca, where you'll have dinner and spend the night in a hotel.

Following breakfast, we will embark on a visit to Casablanca and take a guided tour of the magnificent Hassan II Mosque. Afterwards, we will transfer to Marrakesh, depending on your flight schedule. This concludes our 9 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert.
