Itinerary for 3 days Marrakech to Fes

First day: Marrakech to High Atlas Mountains to Ait Ben Haddou to Ouarzazate to Skoura to Dades

Our Marrakech to Fes desert trip will begin at 08:00 from Marrakech, and we will travel through the Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass to reach the Dades Gorges. In the end, the four hours of traveling over the mountains will be worth it to reach the beautiful scenery and little Berber towns. Our next destination is the historical location of Kasbah Ait Benhaddou. Over 20 films have been shot in and around the historic kasbahs, which formerly served as trade routes.

Slaves, gold, ivory, salt, and silk were all transported over the historic Salt Road from sub-Saharan nations to Marrakech and beyond, and this castle played a pivotal role in this trade. Following our visit to Ait Ben Haddou, we will go to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” since it was the location for the filming of such blockbuster hits as Gladiator and The Mummy. We will continue our journey to Dades Gorges from Ouarzazate, stopping en route at Mgouna, Skoura, and a number of Berber villages in the valley.

Second day: Dades Gorges, Todra Gorges, and Jorf-Erfoud-Merzouga (Sahara night and camel ride).

After a hearty breakfast and a refreshing shower, we will continue our journey from Dades to the Erg Chebbi region of the Sahara desert. On the way, you’ll pass by a number of traditional Berber communities. We will travel through the cities of Tenghir, Tinjdad, and Jorf, and take a stroll through the Todra Gorges (one of the most astonishing canyons in the world).

After exploring the Todra gorges, we’ll travel to Erfoud, where the first Saharan oasis and settlements come into view. The journey to Merzouga was then resumed. We’ll be taking a camel ride into the Saharan dunes before we stop for the night. We’re going to be spending the night in the desert camp, where there’s said to be drumming. The sunset and dawn over the sand dunes provide for stunning photographic subjects. You’ll have supper and go to your room after all that.

Third day: Merzouga Desert to Ziz Valley to Azrou to Ifrane to Fes

The next morning, our guide at the camp will wake you up to see the sunrise before leading us on a camel ride back to Merzouga. We’ll begin our day trip to Fes once everyone has showered and eaten breakfast. In the Ziz Valley, we’ll pause for tea and photos before crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains. We’re going to get some lunch at a Midelt. Medilt, perched atop the Jbel Ayachi at an amazing 1488 meters in elevation, is a city not to be missed (3737 m). After seeing the beautiful cities of Ifrane and Azrou, we’ll finally arrive at Fes, Morocco’s most famous and historic destination (Cedar Forest).
