Itinerary for the 5 days tour from Fes to Marrkech :
The 5 days desert tour begins with a pick-up from either the airport or your lodgings in Fes. The journey then takes you south to Imouzzer where you will visit Ifrane, known for its alpine-style houses and low temperatures, earning it the nickname "the Switzerland of Morocco." Next, you will explore the cedars forest, home to the Barbary Macaques, where you can observe and even feed them. After a lunch stop in Midelt, the tour continues through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and along the Ziz river, eventually reaching the Sahara desert in Merzouga. Here, you will mount camels and trek across the sand, taking in the breathtaking sunset from the top of a dune. The evening will be spent in a luxury desert camp, where you can enjoy traditional Berber drumming and dancing beneath the stars. Dinner and overnight in the camp.
Starting the day early to witness the stunning sunrise in the desert is a must-do experience. After breakfast, you will return to Merzouga on camels where the driver will be waiting. The day will be dedicated to exploring the wonders of Merzouga and its surrounding areas, which offer a range of outdoor activities, from visiting sand dunes, a wild lake, mines, fossils areas and stunning oases.
The journey in Merzouga begins with a visit to an ancient eyeliner mine followed by a visit to the nomads in their woven tents, where you can learn about their way of life and enjoy a traditional Berber tea. Next, we will visit the Khamlia village, known for its Gnaoua music and dancing performances. The villagers are descendants of sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger. A lunch break at a restaurant will be followed by a walk through a palm grove and a visit to the wild lake of Merzouga, also known as the flamingos lake. The day will end with dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel.
After breakfast, we depart from the desert towards Rissani, a town which was once the capital of Tafilalet. Rissani continues to be a significant trading hub in the area with a bustling souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
After exploring the vibrant Rissani souk, we proceed to Erfoud where we will visit a workshop of fossilized marble. Then we travel through Touroug and Tinjdad's palm groves to reach the Todra Gorges. The Todra river has carved out a magnificent canyon through the mountains, creating a high red cliff-sided canyon that is popular with rock climbers. You are free to roam the gorges and admire the scenic beauty. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to the Dades valley via Boumalne Dades. We will make stops at the famous "monkey fingers" rock formation and a viewpoint on top of a mountain with a panoramic view of the Dades valley. Dinner and overnight stay will be at a hotel.
Following our breakfast, we move forward with our journey to Kalaa Magouna to experience the Rose Valley, which holds a Rose Festival every year in May. The festival showcases various rose-based products, including perfumes, rose water, oil, and cosmetics, offered by the local people. Lunch is available on a free time basis. Our route then takes us through the Skoura palm groves to the Kasbah of Amridil, and eventually to Ouarzazate, where we visit film studios known for hosting famous movie productions and the Taourirt Kasbah. Our day ends with dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel.
On our final day, we visit the renowned Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic site has been featured in numerous movies, such as Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, as well as popular TV shows like Game of Thrones. Our journey to Marrakesh continues as we drive through the Tizi N Tichka pass and the towering High Atlas Mountains, taking breaks for lunch and photo opportunities along the way.
